Wellness Series: Magna Wave

It’s remarkable how many therapies and schools of bodywork there are specifically for equines. We truly can can for our equines as well as we would a family member. I hope for this to be one of many in a series of blog posts that feature different therapies, some available on our farm.

Without knowing what is happening at the cellular level, a PEMF treatment like Magna Wave to the naked, untrained eye clearly does something good. Sessions are typically 20-30 minutes. The practitioner places the coils at various points on the horse’s body and adjusts the intensity according to the horse’s comfort level. Specific points or large areas are exposed to the electro-magnetic waves through the coil. A session can focus on a problem area or general relaxation, and the practitioner is trained on how to spend the horse’s time with the machine based on their observations of the horse’s needs. Below you’ll find some scientific explanation of what’s happening during a session from our local Magna Wave Certified Practitioner. Magna Wave is available for horses at Hardwood Creek Farm by Certified Practitioner, Barb Leonard.

What is Magna Wave?

Magna Wave is a pulsed electro-magnetic frequency (PEMF) delivered by a coil. All energy is electromagnetic in nature, and nothing happens in any animal’s body without an electromagnetic exchange between cells. The electromagnetic energy controls the body’s chemistry, and without it life ceases. Stimulated cell metabolism is the main result of Magna Wave, encouraging self-healing.

Electromagnetic energy increases blood oxygenation, reduces inflammation and pain, and stimulates acupuncture points. The result is relief of muscle soreness, improved performance, increased range of motion, reduced inflammation, and accelerated healing.

Most horses relax with a 20-30 minute session. They may exhibit signs of detox such as yawning, becoming drowsy, or napping. Horses’ lips may quiver and/or droop. Their muscles will twitch, indicating inflammation and/or pain.
